Bigelow Homes Announces The Recession Proof House
By Kevin Gipson, New Orleans Consumer Attorney on Apr 21, 2009 in Foreclosure News
Bigelow Homes, a residential home builder with developments in Illinois and Texas, has announced what it calls the “Recession Proof House”.
Bigelow is following the lead of many automobile manufacturers in offering to pay the buyer’s mortgage if the buyer becomes unemployed.
In an additional effort to improve sales, Bigelow is also offering:
- No down payment financing.
- A guarantee that the value of the home will not decrease. If the buyer decides to sell the house and it does not sell for at least the original purchase price, Bigelow, through an insurance policy, will pay the difference.
- Flexible living space, which is designed as a separate living area with its own private entrance. The idea is that if someone is financially unable to pay the house note on their own, then they could sublease this space as an apartment or perhaps share the expense by having an adult child or an elderly parent live in the space.
With home sales still at an all time low, it will be interesting to see whether other builders will follow the Bigelow’s lead.
